Once a tree is down in Waihi Beach, the stump is what's left — and it's usually more of a problem than people expect. Trip hazard, mower obstacle, sprouting regrowth, or just in the way of whatever you want to do with the space. Grinding takes it below ground level and leaves the site clean.
We grind stumps across Waihi Beach and the Western Bay of Plenty. All sizes from small garden stumps to large trunks. Can be combined with tree removal or done as a standalone job. Call 027 600 0446.
Stump grinding at Waihi Beach operates in the sandy coastal substrate that characterises this part of the Bay of Plenty coast. Sandy soil makes grinding relatively efficient — roots through sand offer less resistance than roots through clay — but it also means root systems can spread much further than expected. Pohutukawa stumps in particular can have lateral roots extending five or more metres from the trunk in the right conditions, and we work carefully to avoid damaging underground services and neighbouring root systems. We grind to 150–200mm below grade as standard, which is adequate for lawn and garden reinstatement. On Waihi Beach sections where the stump is close to the dune margin or coastal vegetation, we're careful about the amount of material removed from around the stump — sandy coastal substrate is mobile, and excessive disruption around the stump can create instability. Grindings can be spread or hauled away. Sandy soil replenishes quickly when topsoil is added after grinding — most sites are ready for replanting within one season. WBOPDC applies.
