Once a tree is down in Maketu, the stump is what's left — and it's usually more of a problem than people expect. Trip hazard, mower obstacle, sprouting regrowth, or just in the way of whatever you want to do with the space. Grinding takes it below ground level and leaves the site clean.
We grind stumps across Maketu and the Western Bay of Plenty. All sizes from small garden stumps to large trunks. Can be combined with tree removal or done as a standalone job. Call 027 600 0446.
Stump grinding at Maketu is influenced by the sandy coastal soil that dominates this part of the Bay of Plenty coast. Sandy soil is generally easier to grind through than the clay soils of the inland areas, but it also means root systems tend to be broader and shallower than expected — pohutukawa stumps in particular can have lateral roots that spread much further than the visible stump suggests, and we work carefully to avoid damaging underground services in the process. We grind to 150–200mm below grade as standard, which is sufficient for lawn or garden reinstatement. Maketu's coastal sections are typically small, so stump removal is often part of a wider renovation project — clearing a section before landscaping, removing an old tree that's been replaced by something smaller. The sandy soil replenishes quickly once grindings are spread or removed and topsoil is added. If you're replanting in the same spot, allow a season for the root system to break down. All stump grinding at Maketu is under WBOPDC jurisdiction. We carry public liability insurance.
