Once a tree is down in Minden, the stump is what's left — and it's usually more of a problem than people expect. Trip hazard, mower obstacle, sprouting regrowth, or just in the way of whatever you want to do with the space. Grinding takes it below ground level and leaves the site clean.
We grind stumps across Minden and the Western Bay of Plenty. All sizes from small garden stumps to large trunks. Can be combined with tree removal or done as a standalone job. Call 027 600 0446.
Stump grinding in Minden deals with the clay-dominant soils of the Bay of Plenty hill country — heavier and more resistant than the coastal sandy soils, and often very dense in the root zone of established macrocarpa or eucalyptus. Grinding through a large macrocarpa stump in heavy clay takes more time and wear on the grinder teeth than the same job on lighter soil, and we factor that into our assessment. We grind to 150–200mm below grade as standard, and deeper on request for areas being cultivated or replanted. Minden's sloped terrain means we assess ground stability and machine positioning before driving on — grinding equipment on steep ground needs to be positioned with care. Where slope is too significant for safe machine access, we can arrange alternative equipment. Stump grindings can be left on site — they're fine as fill in garden beds or rough ground on rural sections — or hauled away. For replanting on the same spot, we suggest removing grindings and adding fresh topsoil, as the high-carbon grindings suppress nitrogen availability for new root systems. Service available across the Western Bay of Plenty District.
